Simcoe Contemporary Dancer’s Executive Director, Chrissy Baxter, has been honoured by the Barrie Today Community Builders Awards in the art category!
Of the recognition, Chrissy said:
“I have been dancing with Simcoe Contemporary Dancers for over 10 years, and this year is my seventh season as Executive Director. Throughout this time, I’ve focused on creating meaningful opportunities for the Barrie community to connect with dance through free community creation periods, workshops, and performances.
I’m deeply passionate about this work because I believe that art has the power to enrich our lives and strengthen our community. Dance is one of the most natural forms of human expression, and by bringing it into accessible spaces and offering open invitations, I hope to show everyone that there’s a dancer within each of us. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many people through these shared experiences, and my life has been richer for it.
I encourage everyone – the next time you see a community opportunity with SCD, come out, give it a try, and support your local arts organizations. We need your presence and passion—and you might just discover the artist in yourself.”
